Valencia, a little Chinese supermarket near the north station. As soon as you enter, a strong, unfamiliar smell. Crates of exotic vegetables and shelves full of strangely packaged foods, seaweed, noodles, rice and soya beans.
In one corner a woman sits surrounded by newspapers, magazines and old books which seem to be romances and adventure novels. I touch the paper and look for the typefaces I like. She helps me and we laugh.
Then, back in the studio I carefully select a number of pages of one book. The cells of these transparent plastic sheets I work with allow me to store almost anything, even a smell.
