    FUNDACIÓ VALLPALOU – LLEIDA

The workshop is run by the teachers in the participating schools, with the support of the Fundació Vallpalou, thus ensuring the optimum adaptation approach and contents to the profile of the students’ curriculum.

Age of students: 12-16 years           Recommended duration: 45 minutes

Concepts to be developed on the basis of the artworks: Impact (the more conceptual level). Olfactory sensations (the more experimental level)

Objectives: To develop creative thinking; to apply new approaches to the work of art; to discover new meanings associated with the work of art; to appreciate the interconnections between the senses (especially between smell, sight and touch).

The exhibition engages with the concept of the work of art as radically transformative.

Educational proposal: to reflect on the concept of impact and associated values (shock, surprise, etc) on the basis of:

    • Theme: Death (works by Marty, Fuchs, Ballen, Collins); The Body (works by Coplans, Kulicka, Valldosera); Metamorphosis (works by Ibáñez, Coplans, Agrela, Mira)

    • Aesthetic/formal issues (plastic effects produced by the colour, the texture or the material and technical qualities of the works)

Works by the artists Bogart, Kounellis, Linnenbrink, Booker

    OLFACTORY SENSATIONS

A second common denominator of the works – in relation to one another and to the collection they belong to (olorVISUAL) – are the olfactory sensations (smells) that are associated with them.

To work on this theme we propose:

    1) A prior reflection on smells:

    a. Associated with personal experiences

    b. Associated with shapes and colours

    2) A reflection on the particular smells associated with the works:

Each work is accompanied by a text in which the artist or another author writes about its relation to the sense of smell.
