The painting would smell like the damp cellar of a church. It would be a little like the heavy smell of incense, but the smell has penetrated and saturated the walls and floors through years of being exposed to it.
It would be a winter smell that would get to the back of your nose and your throat. It would be a rather familiar smell and it would make you feel safe, but with a bitter aftertaste.
