  • This place smells of rusting metal and old rubber. It smells of dust, the dust of dead trees and fallen buildings. It smells of oily water lying in stagnant pools and mold growing on concrete foundations. The smell of moisture on the wind is a sign of the approaching storm, which will try to wash away the dirt. This place smells of loneliness and loss, the loss of a world that is warm and comfortable. We don’t like to think about this place. We fear it. We would rather sweep it under the rug. But it’s still there under the rug, waiting. This is not a place for the living. This place is the unknown, it represents death and the fear that people attach to it. I dreamt about this place and started to explore it. I learned many things, but most of all to be at peace with my mortality. There is no greater thing than life and living it without a fear of the unknown.
