  • The interaction with the architectural context is a crucial part of Pieter Vermeersch’s work. Although his imaginary is often purely abstract, it is an abstraction of something real and physical. In a certain sense, light, colour, painting and space are not only the media of his work, but also its themes. Vermeersch combines his work in the studio with site-specific installations linked to a particular space.

In Untitled, Vermeersch worked from a photograph, to which he applied precise strokes of oil paint in particular places. As if it were a mixture of essences, the result is an almost perfect symbiosis, which explores the ambiguous relationship with the limits of its perception.

Does it smell of something? Possibly… This almost perfect symbiosis must have a smell.
