    What is smell?

What is the first smell that comes to mind?

And a smell you remember from when you were little?

What does the colour green smell like? And white?

    And the summer holidays?

    And silence?

And this artwork we are looking at: what kind of olfactory sensation does it suggest? What smell does it conjure up?

The guided tours of the exhibition SMELL COLOUR. Chemistry, Art and pedagogy bring us into closer contact with the olfactory universe through the experience of an art exhibition in which the evocation of smell is the principal criterion, both in the acquisition of the works that make up the olorVISUAL collection and in the selection and design of the show at Arts Santa Mònica in Barcelona.

A palette of scents created by the collector himself, a perfumer by profession, offers us an unexpected sensorial experience. By means of the volatile particles of the aromas he has chosen for the works, the brain receives stimuli that awaken unexpected emotions, above and beyond the purely visual impact.

An understanding of the sense of smell and its evocative capacity, of odouriferous substances and their origins and of the perfumer’s palette; the sampling of the different olfactory notes that are present in the exhibition, the range of scent-colour associations and the possibility of drawing or painting fragrances bring the visitor into closer contact with this olfactory universe for the purpose not only of enabling a fuller appreciation of the whole and the signs of the show but also and above all of awakening ‘the most neglected sense’ in the service of a more complete perception and aesthetic experience.

The guided tours are suitable for all ages; they last a maximum of an hour and a half and the contents are adapted to the characteristics of the group.
